We are excited to announce that we have arranged a small animal First Aid course with ProTrainings.
Due to unforseen circumstances, we unfortunately had to change the original date for the practical element of this course. On a positive note, this means that there is still time for you to sign up for the training!
This blended course aims to meet the level 3 First Aid requirements for professionals working with small animals laid down by the latest government and council guidance.
The course will cover essential skills combining online theory (ProTrainings advertise this as being 6 hours but it is actually 8-9 hours) and a practical module (6 hours) with a ProTrainings approved instructor.
The online element includes educational videos, knowledge checks, and a final test comprising of true or false questions. The online work can be completed at your own pace, but delegates MUST have completed all of the online training in order to attend the practical session. Please ensure that the online component is complete at least 48 hours before the practical date.
Once you have registered and paid for this course, you will be sent a welcome email with your log-in details: username and a temporary password. You will need to change this password.
The online training includes:
Small animal (dogs/cats) First Aid principles, law, and the vet's role.
Anatomy & physiology (dogs/cats)
Setting up first aid kits.
Recognising and managing emergencies such as bleeding, choking, shock, burns, poisoning, bites, stings, fractures, spinal injuries, paw/nail issues, eye/ear problems, heatstroke, and seizures.
CPR and rescue breaths.
Dealing with accidents (at home / car)
The practical element will include:
Bandage application (legs, tail, body).
Handling wounds and fight injuries.
Practical CPR on mannequins.
Emergency care for common pet (dog / cat) ailments.
The practical module will be held on Friday 8th May 2026 at the Herongate Club in Hungerford. Registration 08.30am, 9am – 4pm with breaks for coffee/lunch.
Tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day but delegates will need to bring their own lunch or purchase it from the on-site café.
Completion of the full training leads to a nationally recognised Level 3 Vocational Training Qualification (VTQ) certificate. The certificate is valid for 3 years.
This course is limited to 12 delegates as per ProTrainings instructions. If uptake is good and the feedback is positive, ACPAT will arrange further small animal First Aid Training in different localities.
The practical element of the course will NOT be recorded.
